Who is Satoshi Nakamoto? New Grok AI Study Tests Multiple Theories

by admin

A new open-source analysis on GitHub has tested the popular theory that Elon Musk is Satoshi Nakamoto. The study examined three writing fingerprints that supporters often cite.

However, the results suggest that Musk’s writing style shares little in common with Bitcoin’s anonymous creator.

What the Satoshi Stylometry Test Found

Stylometry is the statistical study of writing style to identify or compare authors. It measures habits such as spelling choices, punctuation, and the frequency of common words.

The Musk theory has circulated for years, partly fueled by a former SpaceX intern’s claim in 2017. However, Elon Musk has repeatedly denied creating Bitcoin.

To test it, the researcher behind the satoshi-stylometry repository combined the Grok Bot with stylometry techniques. Ironically, Grok is the AI chatbot built by Musk’s own company, xAI. The analysis focused on three key claims:

  • Double spacing: Satoshi used two spaces after periods 95.3% of the time. Musk’s raw X posts showed zero cases.
  • British spelling: Satoshi’s writing was mixed, with British forms in 32.7% of cases. Musk used them only 0.65% of the time.
  • Word patterns: Musk ranked 30th of 66 writers in function-word similarity, no closer than a typical control writer.

Moreover, the analysis found no evidence that Musk’s early writing was British. His earliest testable texts, from 2006, already used American spelling.

Notably, the method correctly attributed Satoshi’s text samples 27 out of 30 times. That accuracy gives the comparison some statistical weight.

Is Elon Musk Satoshi Nakamoto? What the Data Says

According to the data, the answer is likely no.

Interestingly, cypherpunk Hal Finney scored closer to Satoshi’s style than Musk did. In contrast, Nick Szabo scored further away.

Small quirks also differ. Satoshi wrote “e-mail” 17 times and “email” only three times. Musk, however, wrote “email” 65 times and never used the hyphenated form.

The repository also tested Bitcoin advocate Brad Mills’ X posts. His writing ranked 52nd out of 66, so the data does not support a link either.

Still, the author stresses several caveats:

  • Genre gap: Satoshi wrote emails and forum posts, while Musk mostly writes tweets.
  • Phone formatting: Smartphones often convert double spaces automatically, which weakens that test.
  • Small samples: The study found only eight Musk spelling examples before 2013.

Finally, the README describes the work as a hobby-scale project, not forensic linguistics.

Therefore, it cannot prove or disprove who Satoshi really is. For now, Bitcoin’s creator remains a mystery.
